Joseph Wade Dupree, 80, passed away February 26, 2026 at his home in Myrtle Beach SC. Joe was born August 27, 1945 to the late Wade A. and Ruth Cecilia Barbour Dupree. He graduated from Cleveland high school in 1963 along with his sweetheart Gloria Stephenson.
Joe worked his way through college as a mechanic at a Raleigh Phillips 66 station and earned his BS degree from Campbell University, Buies Creek NC 1967. Soon after he earned his MBA from East Carolina University, Greenville NC.
Joe married Gloria Elaine Stephenson, March 25, 1967 and after graduate school they settled in Raleigh NC. Joe went to work with the Burroughs (computer) corporation, worked for NC Department of Education for a while, then founded Infocel corporation and pursued a very successful career in national municipal software sales management. He later sold his company to EDS in Texas and retired early. Gloria taught business management at Wake technical College for 20 years before having a very successful career in real estate sales.
Joe and Gloria moved to North Myrtle Beach initially while building their home in Arcadia Shores, Myrtle Beach SC where they have lived for over 31 years.
Joe and Gloria have been actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach, SC where they have loved serving and ministering with the outstanding Pastors and staff and many wonderful friends. They have also greatly enjoyed their close neighborhood community.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria, his nephew, Marty Dupree and wife Angela, their five children and six grandchildren, his niece, Jenny Bullard Scratcher and her husband Alan and their two sons. Nieces Denise Dupree, Karen Dupree Laws family, and Janet Dupree Simmons family.
In addition to his parents, Joe was proceeded in death by his son Steven Scott Dupree, his brothers J. Harold Dupree, and Gerald T. Dupree.
Joe will be placed in the columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church Myrtle Beach SC and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held there Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow for friends and family.
Joe was a generous and faithful steward of the many blessings that God afforded him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach, SC.
